The precursor of the green gatherings was organised under the Ecology Party in 1980 as a Summer Gathering for Eco members. There was no Glastonbury music festival this year and Michael Eavis allowed use of the site at Worthy Farm in August. As the leaflet makes clear it was a fairly loosely organised affair.

The second gathering was still called "Ecology Party Summer Gathering" but was trying to broaden its appeal to "the ecology movement as a whole". Glastonbury music festival was held in June'81 after taking a year off in 1980 and was linked with CND. The summer gathering was held a month later also at Worthy Farm courtesy of Michael Eavis.

This sheet appears to come from an edition of GreenLine in 1982 (the Glasgow Hillhead by-election mentioned by Cadogan was on 25th March). Both articles are relevant to the debate between political "vanguardist" and movement building "consensus" approaches to development of green-ism.
